Refuge Update and June Meeting

A big “Thank You” to all the Friends and Volunteers who assisted with the Project COMPASS fishing event and picnic! We had a great turnout, and everyone had a fun time catching fish that evening.

We hope to see many of you next Wednesday, June 21 for the Damsels and Dragons presentation at the Winona History Center beginning at 6:00 p.m. Click here for more information.

Good news if you use the Verchota Landing on the Prairie Island dike. The dock is back on the spuds and ready to use again after it floated off during the flood. Thanks to Winona Welding and their handy crane that lifted the dock back into place (see photo). Turns out the dock weighed 5,000 pounds! Wow!

And finally, you are invited to join the Friends for their regular monthly meeting next Thursday, June 22 beginning at 4:15 p.m. at the Refuge office, 102 Walnut Street, Suite 205. Click for May’s meeting minutes and June’s agenda.
